Fire Tower Hike & Lunch For Two Package - $109
Sounding Knob Fire Tower Hike
Experience the breathtaking views and rich history of the Sounding Knob Fire Tower in Monterey, VA. Originally constructed in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this 90-foot tower offers unobstructed, panoramic views of Highland County and beyond. Located at the top of Jack Mountain, the fire tower stands at an elevation of nearly 4,000 feet, allowing you to see for miles in every direction, including the highest peak in West Virginia, Spruce Knob.
The hike to the fire tower is approximately 1.3 miles each way from our cabin, which sits at an elevation of 3,550 feet. The trail is a well-maintained dirt and gravel road, providing a moderate challenge. During the hike, you will ascend nearly 500 feet to reach the fire tower, making it a rewarding outdoor adventure. Upon reaching the tower, you'll need to climb 111 steps to the top, where you'll be greeted with mesmerizing views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The tower is open from sunrise to sunset every day, ensuring you can enjoy the beauty of Highland County at your convenience (OnlyInYourState®) (Allegheny Mountain Radio).
